Teenagers and adults, males and females need to understand
the Adult Transition Process

ADULT TRANSITION PROCESS

This is for all people of all ages. Even though what is written is focusing on the 16 to 20 year old age group, this is something you may need to know as some issues may still be affecting you.

The Adult Transition Process or ATP starts at the age of 16 and should last for a four year duration - ending at the age of 20. This time in a persons life should be acknowledged as it is a change from leaving childhood and school to entering into a new world called ADULT HOOD.
As this transition has not been openly recognised, this leaves this age group at a time where they need to know what is really happening to them.

Those at the ATP stage in their life must be informed of what they need to know. It is true some parents have informed and prepared their offspring but unfortunately some have not. Some people would like to put the blame on the parents of the uninformed children, which maybe unfair, as some parents have not left the ATP and still have a child’s mentality. Some adults in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and even up to the age of 90 and beyond have not released themselves from the ATP. Why do you hear of adults doing silly crime? Why do some parents prefer their children to call them by their first name instead of mum or dad? Why? Could it be that some do not feel like adults and may believe to communicate with their children they should step down to their child’s level? Children need to see parents as being their leader and not their companion or school buddy. Children learn from their parents whether the parents are good or bad at educating them. Sadly, some of these parents never grew up in their minds because they didn’t understand or recognise ATP. They may have learned from their uneducated parents who did not recognize ATP and in turn learned from their grandparents who may have had an underprivileged uneducated or abusive upbringing. It may not be too late for parents to recognise their position in their families and educate their children. Some of you who don’t have parents or if you grew up in care can learn from this message too.

The Adult Transition Process age group should learn and understand the importance of responsibility. Whether responsibility of their bills, being on time, their actions, the consequence of their actions, how to write a CV etc. – they have to understand that this is part of what adulthood is all about. They must realise pressure from their friends (peer pressure) could get them into trouble or even killed. They should be made aware to ignore peer pressure and make decisions for themselves. I have been told prison is boring and lonely. Some people blame their actions on alcohol. If a person wants to drink it is up to them. It is the responsibility of the person drinking to know how much they can take. You also have the option of not drinking drinks with alcohol in them. The decision is yours. The truth is, excessive drinking can damage your health. Also, it is very painful to have a family member or a friend killed on the simple fact that a driver wasn’t fit to drive because they were under the influence of alcohol. It’s not fair!

It is seen to be really fashionable to have sex and to have as many partners as you can but the reality is, the risk of getting a sexual disease is greater. It doesn’t matter if you use a condom, take the pill or any other contraceptive, your health is at risk. I almost forgot, people really do die of aids and the time of when a person gets aids to the time when a person actually dies can be a frightening process to see. They look nothing like how they did when they did not have aids. I must mention this; I was speaking to a female who had sex with 16 different partners by the time she reached 16 years of age. Now she is much older and has a child, she regrets every single sexual encounter. Pay attention young ladies. In fact, many females I have spoken to regret having sex at the ATP age group. Most say they did it because of peer pressure and/or because they felt left out. Males or females, you never have to have sex with a person to feel accepted. If your peers cannot accept you for you, then you may need to move on and find better people to be around who respect you. If you fall for their pressure, they may use it against you later on in life over and over again until you move on and find new friends. You deserve better in life.
Babies. Unwanted babies are another reason not to have sex until you are married. First of all abortion. Some females will never talk about it. Why, because the suffering that some females have to go through is too painful to describe. Not only that but if the abortion goes wrong the female who is carrying the unborn child can die. Also, many females who have had an abortion have regretted it later on in life and wished they had the baby.
Some single mothers at the ATP age group have realised that it is not always easy bringing up a child on their own. There are a lot of things to do and to prepare not only for themselves but for their child. If you, whether male or female, have to bring up the child on your own and your friends or family do not want to help you then you have to be determined to survive. Having said this, some single parents do really well bringing up their children and are able to progress in life; but some just cannot cope. The truth has to be told.

Now why do I say it is better to wait for marriage to have sex and babies? Simple answer. Less chance of getting any sexual diseases. Next, how many unmarried males leave the female holding the baby while they go about living their own lives? I am talking about the ATP age here. When you are at the Adult Transition Process age you should be understanding the change into adulthood but getting to know who you really are. You can travel, make new friends, visit new places, not only participate in sports, study, read, create your own fashion, get to know someone who is of a different nationality, create your own sport and develop it; almost anything to occupy your time and enjoy your young life (well any age can do this). Sex is promoted too much in everything, drowning out the view of life and alternative things to do. But there you have it. I have just said what else can be done.
Question. Why do some single males leave the female with the baby?
Answer. 1) Because they are still children themselves and some do not know what to do.
Answer. 2) Because you both argue. And why do some of you argue? Reason, because you cannot agree on anything. Why? At around the age of 16 to 20, many in this age group think they know it all. Its true. I was 16 also and I thought I knew better than everyone else. Most of us did. That is the age where I believe we may be the most rebellious. When a couple have got married (love each other), signed the certificate, then they both will be or should be there to look after the baby. It is much easier if there are two people. The child needs both a mother and a father. I am not creating a fantasy world here. You make the choices in your own life on how you want to live. Even if you do have a child and you are single, don’t feel down. Life is all about experiences and learning. We all make decisions and the outcome to our decisions will be seen. Life is not over. It is just a different view of life for you. You still can have a satisfying life.
This concludes the acknowledgment of the Adult Transition Process. Whether you are an adult or a young person going through the change, realise that you go through stages in your life and you have to let go of adolescent thinking. You still can have fun and enjoy life but as the life cycle continues, the next generation is watching you. They are looking to you on how they should act and behave.
I hope this information has helped you. Life’s not that bad when you know what really is going on. Make decisions. Use your talent to the maximum. Find out who you are and what you can do. When you have found out who you are, just be you and love being you.
